The Tour (Episode II)
I sort of misheard the counselor yesterday when he knocked on my door to tell me I forgot to sign in at the mandatory 9:30 check-in time. I thought he said that breakfast was at 6:30 in the morning and the meeting with the other delegates was at 7:30 the next day. So naturally I set an alarm clock to prepare and set it next to my bed.
The first thing I heard in the morning was the extremely annoying ringing of my phone and my roommate preparing to throw a shoe at me (that was what I thought the sound was). I reached for the phone on the window still and tried to unlock it. But my fingerprint didn’t work very well and I had to enter in the passcode, without glasses. With foggy eyes from sleep. After that little episode, I went to prepare. But it turned out that breakfast began at 7:30 and the meeting was at 9:00. Whoops.
Breakfast was delightful. There were a wide variety of foods that you could pick and the bread was wonderfully toasted. Following breakfast there was a tour of Cambridge. More specifically the Magdalene College itself. We went to see the lodges, passed by the river, and looked at the supermarket near us.
Most of the day today was free time, because some of us were still new to this. I personally went out to buy some stuff I forgot like toiletries and snacks, enjoying the view along the way. I saw a couple of other delegates buying soda and stuff too.
Lunch was uneventful and then came the tour after the free time. The tour guide took us to show mostly the colleges in Cambridge but also took us to see other remarkable places around the city. He also told us some stories, like the one about the greedy executioner meeting his end or the haunted scientist’s home. A highlight on this tour (or candle-light) was when we went to the church in the center of the city. To get to the top to see the view, we had to climb these tiny stairs in a very narrow staircase, all while cracking open our skulls on the low ceiling. I did not like that.
Dinner was uneventful too, but after that a large group of us went to the park nearby to play soccer (football). It was fantastic, with all of us still getting to know each other this was a chance that we could bond.
Well, it’s been a long and interesting day. I’ll go turn in now.
