The Grass Rules
Something I thought about recently is the rule in Cambridge about the grass. So, if you are in Cambridge, the only three reasons that you can walk on some college grass is if a) you are a Fellow, b) you are talking to a Fellow, and c) if you are a duck. But this brings up one point. The grass in Cambridge colleges look pretty nice, and they need to be serviced. That means that the gardener is a Fellow?
Breakfast is getting really old, with bacon and eggs and vegetarian sausages being served day after day. I think I’ll go for some cereal next time to change it around. Lunch and dinner are different every day, but I sometimes eat food from the outside. If you are planning to attend a CBL Summer Academy, you might want to bring or buy food from the supermarket and stock them in your room. So that way if you miss dinner or anything you still have a supply to fall back on.
The weather around here is very nice, as it is summer. Mostly sunshine and on bad days cloudy skies. You can go out for a walk and feel the breeze. The sun sets late, by my standards, at around 7:00-8:00 at night.
Today the first thing we did was to go on a selfie scavenger hunt around Cambridge to find famous landmarks and people and take selfies with them. Unfortunately, my group came in last, taking too long but we did have fun running around talking to strangers. Next, we split into groups of five. As most people were enrolled in international politics, our counselor decided that we would create a fictitious election for mayor. Each of us had to help our groups gain the most votes. In this competition, my party the People Party won in a landslide. I learned a lot about policies and speechmaking, even though I wasn’t the candidate.
After that was lunch. Then we had an interesting session. Debating workshop. All the delegates were formed into three houses: Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, and Slytherine. We were competing in the Triwizard cup (Harry Potter) and were to debate which one of us were the most suitable to win. Here the delegates battled one another in the fictitious school of Hogwarts to win the favor of Mr. Dumbledore and another professor whose name I forgot.
Well. I can’t think of any way to end this day. Night night. Tomorrow we go to Brighton.
